With only a few days left of 2015/16 there's plenty of travel industry news for you catch up on before we start fresh on 1 July. Starwood have announced a new Westin property for the sunshine coast while also releasing news of a trial streaming service at their Aloft property. In China, Sheraton have opened their new Grand Sheraton in Binjiang which will feature 301 rooms and business facilities.

Aloft streaming trial

Starwood Hotels & Resorts is trialling a new in-room streaming solution. Aloft New Orleans Downtown will host the trial, with all 188 rooms to feature the RoomCast system by late summer. RoomCast enables guests to securely stream content from their smartphones to their in-room TV.

Ibis Styles Romania

Construction is underway on AccorHotels first ibis Styles hotel in Romania. Set to open in 2017, the 72-room ibis Styles Arad will feature a restaurant, lobby bar, three meeting rooms and a multi-purpose room for conferences and events.

New Hawaii Hilton

The Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach is now open. Located just two blocks from the beach it features 623 rooms and suites with complimentary wi-fi as well as a restaurant, fitness centre, outdoor pool and meeting space for up to 30 people.

New Sheraton Grand for China

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts has opened its latest property in China. The 301-room Sheraton Grand Hangzhou Binjiang Hotel is a new build property located in the business district with a prime position offering spectacular views of the city and Qiantang River. It boasts a range of dining venues, a fitness centre, indoor swimming pool and meeting and event space for up to 500 guests.

Westin Sunshine Coast

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed a deal for a new property on the Sunshine Coast. The 220-room Westin Coolum Resort & Spa will be located beachfront at Yaroomba when it opens in 2021. The five-star hotel will feature a choice of dining options, The Heavenly Spa by Westin, a fitness centre and swimming pool as well as 850sqm of meeting and event space. The hotel will form part of a proposed mixed-use development also featuring retail shops and luxury apartments.

Kazakhstan expands visa-free entry

Kazakhstan is granting more countries visa-free entry from 1 January next year. It will apply to 34 OECD countries, including Australia, as well as Monaco, the UAE, Malaysia and Singapore. The country has also signed an ADS agreement enabling Chinese tourists to travel in guided groups.

Air Canada Newark-bound

Air Canada has launched new daily B787 Dreamliner services between Vancouver and New York’s Newark Airport. The service offers seamless connections for travellers flying from Sydney and Brisbane.
