Last week in travel, Hilton Worldwide opened its 100th hotel in Greater China and Novotel opened its new London Canary Wharf hotel. Emirates announced plans to increase capacity on its Dubai-Melbourne route and Etihad Airways announced they will be adding a second daily A380 service for the Abu Dhabi-Sydney route. Plaza Premium has also opened another new arrivals lounge at London’s Heathrow Airport in Terminal 4.

Qantas’s new Kangaroo Route now on sale

Qantas has opened sales for its new "Kangaroo Route" between Perth and London’s Heathrow Airport. The move marks the first non-stop service from Australia to Europe. Operating on B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, the route will debut on 24 March next year, replacing the carrier’s existing Melbourne-Dubai-London services. Travellers from other Australian cities will be able to connect to London via Perth. At approximately 17 hours, it is expected to be the third longest passenger flight globally.

 

New Plaza arrivals lounge at LHR

Plaza Premium has opened another new arrivals lounge at London’s Heathrow Airport. Located in Terminal 4, the facility caters for up to 75 people and features a lounge and bar area, with a new dining concept, Flight Club, as well as 25 shower rooms.

 

Emirates all A380 to Melbourne

Emirates plans to increase capacity on its Dubai-Melbourne route. Effective from 25 March, the carrier will switch the B777-300ER aircraft currently used on flights EK408/409 to an A380. The move means that Emirates will operate an A380 on a three daily services between the two cities.

 

SQ A350s to Rome

Singapore Airlines will operate A350 aircraft on thrice weekly services to Rome. Flights SQ366/365 will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 29 October.

 

Etihad A380s twice daily to Sydney

Etihad Airways is adding a second daily A380 service on its Abu Dhabi-Sydney route. The current from B777-300ER aircraft used on flights EY450/451 will upgrade to the larger superjumbo from 29 October. The aircraft switch will result in the A380 currently operating on the carrier’s Melbourne route, reverting back to a B777-300ER service.

 

100th Hilton for China

Hilton Worldwide has opened its 100th hotel in Greater China. The 296-room Hilton Quanzhou Riverside is located in Jinjiang’s CBD, 8km from Quanzhou Jinjiang Airport. The hotel features a choice of dining venues, a fitness room and pool as well as 2,940sqm of flexible meeting and event space catering for up to 1,300 guests.

 

Flagship Novotel opens in London

The 313-room Novotel London Canary Wharf is now open. The flagship property is located an easy walk from Canary Wharf underground station in the London’s commercial district and features a restaurant, bar and roof terrace with views of the city skyline as well as a gym, swimming pool and sauna. There is also a choice of meeting rooms and the hotel offers free wi-fi.
