Last week Qantas showcased its new range of amenity kits that are launching at the start of May and also opened the new Qantas Coffs Harbour lounge. In hotel news, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts will open its latest Hong Kong property next week and AccorHotels plans to open its largest Mercure hotel in Dubai.

New Qantas amenity kits
Qantas is introducing new Business class amenity kits. Available from 1 May, the new range of amenity kits (eight types for men and eight for women) will be offered to business class customers on international flights, with two designs launching every few months. The bags (pictured) feature artwork by Australian artists, photographers and digital influencers, in various styles including pop culture, photography, fine art, abstract landscape, Indigenous art and textile design. The amenity kits include ASPAR products by Aurora Spa (hand cream, lip balm and face moisturiser), a wrap-around eye mask in the same artwork as the kit, toothpaste, toothbrush, earplugs and travel socks.
Qantas opens new Coffs Harbour lounge
Qantas’ new lounge at Coffs Harbour Regional Airport is now open. Catering to up to 40 travellers, the new facility is 25% larger than before.
Kerry Hotel Hong Kong
Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts will open its latest Hong Kong property on 28 April. The 546-room Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong is a new-build property with an enviable location on Kowloon’s waterfront. Hotel features include four restaurants, a bar, 24-hour gym, an outdoor swimming pool and meeting and event space for up to 2,100 guests.
New Mercure Dubai
AccorHotels plans to open its largest Mercure hotel in Dubai. The 1,015-room Mercure Dubai Barsha Heights Hotel Suites & Apartments is set to open on 19 May after the first phase of a major revamp of a former Sheikh Zayed Road landmark is completed. The second phase is set for completion by the end of 2018.
Marriott’s Kenya debut
Marriott International has opened its first property in Kenya. The 96-room Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi Hurlingham is the first of four properties the hotel group plans to open in East Africa in 2017. It will be followed by Four Points hotels at Nairobi Airport in Kenya as well as Dar es Salaam and Arusha in Tanzania.
Regional NSW has welcomed a new Mercure hotel. The 74-room Mercure Goulburn features a restaurant and bar as well as meeting and event space for up to 200 guests. The property is just a 45-minute drive from Canberra Airport.
Virgin wins Best Onboard Beverages
Virgin Australia has won the Best Onboard Beverages award at the Onboard Hospitality Awards in Hamburg. The airline’s win came as a result of the customised Barossa wine it serves in flight, which was specially developed for consumption at high altitude.
