Five Travel Apps
Travel News 01 May 2017

We asked some of FCM Travel Solutions’ and Flight Centre Travel Group’s (FCTG) frequent travellers about their favourite and most-used travel apps. Here’s what they had to say.

SeatGuru

Free, iOS and Android

“SeatGuru has saved me on so many occasions!” admits Malcolm Sturges-Britton, Global Technology Product Solutions Leader, FCM Travel Solutions. The app, produced by TripAdvisor (another favourite of many), allows travellers to access over 1,000 seat maps from approximately 125 airlines and includes advice and insights drawn from tens of thousands of passenger reviews, so you can always find the best possible seat for your flight.

Citymapper

Free, iOS and Android

Andrew Flannery, Executive General Manager - Corporate Travel, FCTG loves using Citymapper when overseas for business. “Citymapper is great for when you're in a new city and looking for the best way to get around.  Simply type where you want to go and it will give you all public transport options, time to arrive and costs. It also includes city bike schemes and walking, which is great for travellers wanting to be active,” says Andrew. The app is currently available for around 40 world cities including London, Paris, New York, Montreal, Sydney, Hong Kong, Berlin and Seoul.

Conichi

Free, iOS and Android

Imagine this... Guests send pre-filled forms before arrival, open rooms with a digital key and pay their stay securely with their smartphone. It is now all possible, with one single app – Conichi. The technology is currently being used by hotels such as Raddison Blu, Best Western and Swissôtel across parts of Europe with plans for USA and China over the next two years.  “This app is a game-changer for travellers and I look forward to seeing it be rolled out in more regions,” says James Kavanagh, General Manager – Australia, FCM Travel Solutions.

Google Maps

Free, iOS and Android

Many of us will already have Google Maps installed on our phone however not everyone may be familiar with the app’s Offline Maps feature. Karen Cooke, Global Marketing Leader, FCM Travel Solutions uses the feature regularly when travelling for work. “Downloading a section of the map prior to travel allows me to avoid expensive data roaming costs when overseas. I also like to favourite (star) locations such as my hotel, office and meeting locations as well as restaurants, cafes and attractions I’d like to visit during my stay,” says Karen.

Fitstar by Fitbit

Free (offers in app purchases), iOS and Android

Fitstar is a favourite of Mike Dudarenok, Chief Customer Officer – Technology, FCTG. “I love using Fitstar when travelling for guided body workouts,” says Mike. The app makes it easy for travellers to stay in shape when on the road offering seven to 50 minute routines and sessions such as “10 Minute Abs” and “Good Morning” – a 20 minute get-out-of-bed routine. If you own a Fitbit, Fitstar will recommend exercises based on your daily activity, providing personalised fitness guidance to help you reach your goals. It also connects with weight management apps including MyFitnessPal as well as Strava.
