Air New Zealand amendment to long-haul fares

Rising fuel and operational costs have led to Air New Zealand amending their long-haul fares.

Increased costs in the airline industry have been widely reported with carriers experiencing rising overheads including fuel, labour and en-route charges. Air New Zealand has responded to these rising costs by increasing firstly, their domestic fares in May 2018 and now their long-haul fare structure for selected short-haul and long-haul markets. These changes come into effect from Thursday 14 June 2018. Please find a summary of the changes listed below. 

Australia

 

  • Trans-tasman travellers will see an increase to Economy Saver fares of +$10 one-way. For travellers on Economy Flexi and Premium Economy, the fare increase is +$20 one-way.
  • Business Premier fares will increase by +$30 one-way excluding Perth however, will be +$40 one-way for travellers on the Auckland/Christchurch-Perth route.
  • Air New Zealand will also introduce a day of the week surcharge of +$10 one-way for travel on Monday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday on selected Economy Saver and Premium Economy fares.


The Islands

 

  • If your travellers heading to the Islands you can also expect fare increases to your favourite winter getaways including Auckland to Samoa, Niue, Fiji, Norfolk Island, Noumea, Rarotonga, Tahiti and Tonga. The Christchurch and Wellington to Fiji fare will also see an increase.
  • If you’re travelling to Denpasar or Honolulu you won’t receive a fare increase however, all Islands will be subject to the introduction of a day of week surcharge of +$10 one-way for travel on Fri, Sat or Sun on selected Economy Saver and Premium Economy fares.


Long Haul

 

  • Long-haul travellers can expect an average increase of 3% across all fares and the introduction of a day of the week surcharge for travel on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
  • Air New Zealand will also introduce a 60-day advance purchase on all lead in fares excluding Tokyo, Osaka and  Hong Kong, where advance purchases already exist.
  • Flights to USA, Canada and Latin America will all be affected including Auckland to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Vancouver and Buenos Aires. Asia includes Auckland to Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei and Ho Chi Minh.
