FCM’s Account Management Leader - Wellington and South Island, Andrea Knight, recently explored and relaxed in the beautiful island of Fiji. This trip was hosted by Fiji Airways and IHG.
Starting our journey
Staying at the Holiday Inn Auckland airport was so convenient the evening before we departed. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a suite which was a great size with a separate bedroom and living area, not to mention a large bathroom that had a spa bath. The perfect way to unwind after a day at work and get into holiday mode.
Flying with Fiji Airways was an absolute breeze. We were privileged to be able to use the Qantas lounge beforehand which had a wide variety of food and beverages, the ideal way to begin our Fiji trip! We were lucky enough to be upgraded to Business Class on this flight and relaxed in one of the eight seats available in Business Class on the slightly older Boeing 737 700. On the flight, we indulged in fresh warm croissants and rolls as well as a choice of three hot breakfast dishes. We were offered beverages throughout the flight and had the most amazing signature cocktail made with Fijian Rum, really getting us started for the ultimate Fijian experience!
Upon arrival, we met Rosie’s Tours who welcomed us warmly with a traditional Fijian necklace. We jumped onto an air-conditioned bus and were entertained by our fantastic hosts who had incredible knowledge of Fiji and a great sense of humour.
Where to stay?
Holiday Inn Suva
Holiday Inn Suva was a great place for us to stay, with all newly refurbished rooms and a lovely ocean view - we were in pure bliss. The food was an absolute treat including a buffet breakfast and lunch available in the restaurant with the most amazing wood-fired pizzas for lunch. An in-house French pastry chef was up early every morning baking away, there's nothing like freshly baked croissants and pastries every day! This hotel was ideal for corporate conferences with three conference rooms that all look out over the pool, great for a quick dip after the meeting.
Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa
We visited the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa during our stay. The Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is the perfect location to host business events. This large resort has 266 rooms and the most amazing private dining room available. The food is absolutely incredible at this resort. The resort also includes a Pure Fiji Day Spa and swimming pools, including an adults-only pool. Did I mention that all rooms have baths on the balcony? How amazing!
What to do?
The Museum Tour we did provided us with an insight into Fijian history, with 85% of the artefacts being original, not replicas. This was a fascinating experience and great to learn about the Fijian culture.
Another tour that was just amazing was the Eco Tour. Started up by a Kiwi couple in August 2017, their business venture has flourished. The tour included us going along the old railway (sugarcane) lines on electric bicycles. This is an awesome way to see more of Fiji that we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Ending the tour on a secluded white sand beach was just magical.
On our return, we flew with Fiji Airways. Providing us with a quick Premium check-in service we were able to utilise the amazing new Fiji Airways lounge at Nadi airport. This lounge is complete with complimentary wifi, food and beverages and a Pure Fiji spa that is open in the lounge from 1 pm - 9 pm. We were lucky enough to be upgraded again to Business Class on a newer aircraft, the Airbus - A330-200. There was in-flight entertainment available and once again a lovely full meal and beverage service which included their signature Fijian cocktail. What an amazing trip!
