Throughout 2017, New Zealand’s main centres will be busy as they continue to be top corporate hubs and travel destinations while hosting a series of world sporting events. This activity will see unprecedented demand placed on the tourism industry, in particular hotels and rental vehicles over the next 12 months. 

KEY FACTORS DRIVING DEMAND 

Rental cars and hotel availability are expected to come under significant pressure in 2017, as New Zealand plays host to major world sporting events including the World Masters Games, British and Irish Lions Tour, Rugby League World Cup coupled with continuing visitor demand. While this is an exciting period for our country, it impacts on the availability of travel services and collectively fuels high levels of demand: 

This will have a particular impact on you and your companies travellers if;

  • You have a company Travel Policy.  During peak seasons and event periods, rates and availability are extremely limited and therefore staying within the limits of your travel policy becomes difficult if not impossible to adhere to.
  • You travel at short notice periods. During peak season and event periods availability is difficult to source with preferred hotels and rental car provides which can result in travellers having to settle for those brands they are not partnered with.
