The Parkroyal Darling Harbour is located on the city side of Darling Harbour and is within walking distance to the Pitt Street Mall, three blocks from Sydney Town Hall and the Cockle Bay Wharf area famous for its great cafe scene. FCM Australia's Campaigns Manager Lexie recently stayed at the hotel and shared her review of the property with us.

Tell us about the property in general, first impressions...

Formerly the Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour, the hotel feels welcoming the moment you step inside and is staffed by a friendly and happy team who will do anything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

What was your room like?

My room bright and airy, and although I was travelling solo, I feel it was definitely spacious enough to accommodate two people comfortably. I was located in a Darling Harbour view room on the eights floor and had a fantastic view of Darling Harbour at night, plus the lights of the nearby freeway which I found to be strangely soothing to look at, after a long and busy day.

I also received a lovely surprise upon entering my room, and saw that I had received a complimentary fruit platter and bottle of sparkling water from hotel management. The room was comfortably furnished and included a desk with ample power-points and I was also pleased to learn that I had access to complimentary WiFI. As for the bed, I gave it 10 out of 10 and I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time. With a choice of pillow firmness, and a cloud-like mattress, I slept like a baby.

What was the bathroom like?

My well-lit bathroom was great and included a well-sized bathtub (important for tall people) for a much needed relaxing soak as well as a shower with great pressure, a great way to wake up the next morning. Whilst I always travel with my own toiletries, the bathroom was well stocked with a shower gel, shampoo and conditioner and lovely fluffy towels.

Was there a conference room and other rooms that made it suitable for a corporate getaway?

The Parkroyal Darling Harbour is a great destination for conferences and events. There are seven conference rooms located on two different floors, with varied seating capacity and room set-up styles and on-site meeting and events support to manage your requirements. I was also delighted to discover that the Club Lounge (accessible to guests staying in Club Rooms) featured business facilities including a small meeting room for private and relaxed meetings. Or, business travellers can also utilise the lounge area in the Club Lounge for informal meetings and gatherings, and I’m told that this area is usually very quiet during the day.

What other facilities were there?

As mentioned earlier, Parkroyal Darling Harbour has a Club Lounge and can be accessed by guests staying in a Club Room. I enjoyed a fantastic executive breakfast, selecting various items from their breakfast buffet (including hot and cold meals) and was very happy with the selection available. If you’re anything like me and like a bit of peace and quiet until you’ve had your first coffee of the day, I definitely recommend the Club Lounge as I was able to enjoy my meal in peace and quiet. The Club Lounge is open all day with complimentary refreshments available. Plus, guests with access can also enjoy complimentary drinks and canapés between 5:30pm and 7:30pm each evening.

Did you enjoy the food?

Whilst there are two restaurants on site to choose from, I opted for in-room dining for my evening meal, and I wasn’t disappointed. The in-room dining menu had a great selection and I was very happy with my Steak Frites accompanied by a glass of rosé. As mentioned earlier, I dined in the Club Lounge for breakfast and enjoyed wide selection of breakfast dishes available.

Who would you recommend this property for?

I would definitely recommend Parkroyal Darling Harbour to business travellers, not only is it close to the city CBD, it also caters to all business requirements. I would also recommend the hotel to solo travellers, as a woman travelling by myself I felt very safe and comfortable at all times. Couples and leisure travellers would also enjoy the hotel for its close proximity to Darling Harbour.

What's your overall rating out of 5 and any final comments

I’ve given the hotel 4.5 out of 5 – the hotel was fantastic and I would definitely recommend it to anyone requiring accommodation in Sydney. I’ll definitely stay there again myself.
