The Flight Centre New Zealand Foundation

Posted on July 1, 2015 by

As a division of the Flight Centre Travel Group, FCm Travel Solutions is proud to be involved with The Flight Centre New Zealand Foundation. The Foundation is the heart of Flight Centre New Zealand's corporate and social responsibility initiative and its purpose is 'to open up the world to provide a better future'.

"It allows Flight Centre Travel Group staff the opportunity to make a difference and contribute to worthy causes and it also allows charity partners the means to help support and generate awareness and with The Foundation's help, achieve their goals." FCm's General Manager, Andy Jack said.

A wide range of causes have been supported by The Foundation, most recently:

The Halberg Disability Sport Foundation

41 Flight Centre volunteers helped out across 5 events around the country. The programme allowed 71 physically disabled young New Zealanders the opportunity to be able to try surfing for the first time. It also provided education, training, equipment and support for surf clubs with the inclusion of a donation of five specially designed beach wheelchairs. These wheelchairs will provide a legacy to the programme and enable physically disabled young people in local communities the opportunity to continue to be involved in sport and enjoy the beach.

Oxfam's Vanuatu Appeal

$8,690 was raised and donated to Oxfam's Vanuatu appeal after the island nation was left devastated by Cyclone Pam when it hit earlier this year. The donation was then matched by Oxfam leading to a donation of $17,380 which will help with providing vital resources to the stricken area.

Rebuild Nepal

The Foundation made a $12,430 contribution to the Himalayan Trust's 'rebuild Nepal' appeal. The trust, which was founded by Sir Edmund Hilary, is currently very busy delivering emergency relief items such as; tents, tarpaulins, wet weather and warm weather gear, sleeping bags and solar lamps to communities throughout the Solukhumbu region. The money raised will also go towards long-term rebuilding of schools, hospitals and health posts within these communities.

There have been many other contributions to a multitude of different charities and organisations over the last few months and the generosity continues with contributions to many upcoming projects. "We look forward to participating in many more ongoing efforts to support local communities and charities." stated Andy.
